This is the kind of sofa I daydream about…
Ethan Allen navy blue velvet sofa:
Asking: $1500 (sounds like it includes the throw pillows as well)
Condition: “Like new” (less than two years old)
Dimensions: 76″L x 33″H x 34″D
Location: Reston Town Center, VA
Thoughts: Seller says that the sofa originally cost $2550, so while this isn’t an amazing deal, it’s definitely a very good one. Ethan Allen makes quality pieces, and everyone knows how I go weak at the knees for navy velvet…

Blue and white is such a classic combination–and so versatile. It can be traditional, country, preppy, modern, pretty much anything you like. Here are a handful of blue and white items that show the color combo’s range:

Set of 9 ceramic balls:
Asking: $35
Condition: “Like new”
Dimensions: 5-6″

Pair of Barbara Cosgrove lampshades:
Asking: $120
Condition: New
Dimensions: 13″ diameter, 8.5″ high
Location: Alexandria, VA
Thoughts: If you’ve never shopped for lampshades before, you probably think I’m crazy, but if you have, you know that attractive/well-made ones are surprisingly expensive, so two for $120 doesn’t sound unreasonable to me (though I’d probably try to negotiate down a bit anyway).

Ikat (pronounced “ee-cot”): a fabric in which the yarns have been tie-dyed before weaving; (now it’s often used to describe the resulting pattern, even if the traditional dying method isn’t used)
Ikat is a trends with staying power. At least, I like to think it is, since it’s a trend I actually like. If you’re not familiar with this word, you’re likely quite familiar with the kinds of patterns the technique produces. I love that it looks fancy in a cool/global way but not overly designed. What do you think?
Ikat stool:
Asking: $270
Condition: “In perfect condition”
Dimensions: 27″ W; 22″ D; 19″ H
Location: Gaithersburg, MD
Thoughts: Waaaaay to expensive for CL, but it’s pretty, isn’t it?

Ikat rug:
Asking: $125
Condition: “Perfect condition”
Dimensions: 5′ x 8′
Location: Arlington (Courthouse), VA
Thoughts: Ombre and ikat–can you handle than much trendiness? Personally, I’d love this in a modern nursery.

Ikat loveseat:
Asking: $490
Condition: “The cushions are all down filled and extremely comfortable.”
Dimensions: It measures 54′ wide x 39″ high at top of arch x 33″ deep. The seat depth is a roomy 22.5″
Location: Chevy Chase, MD
Thoughts: Most people are afraid of patterned sofas/loveseats, but if the rest of your furniture was fairly neutral, this could be a great statement piece. And while the price might seem high for a (CL) loveseat, keep in mind that its a designer piece that’s beautifully upholstered. Look how perfectly the pattern on the front of the seat cushions lines up with the skirt–that’s the kind of detail that sets apart a mediocre piece from a really nice one.

Two pairs of Ikat drapes:
Asking: $495 (includes 4 panels, 2 curtain rods and the rings to hang them)
Condition: “Custom-made, lined and pinch-pleated”
Dimensions: 84″ L
Location: Arlington (Clarendon), VA
Thoughts: I usually make my own curtains, but since I can’t sew, I’m limited to what can be created with an iron and hem tape… Needless to say, mine aren’t fancy enough to be lined or pinch-pleated, so these look impressive to me. Gorgeous drapes can make a space feel so much more luxurious (see here, here, here or here for examples), so these might be worth a splurge if you’re into the muted palette and the ikat-look.

Ikat shell chair:
Asking: $175
Condition: “Brand new. Teal color is darker that photo shows.”

Location: Falls Church, VA
Thoughts: This would be a great statement piece for a home office. If nothing else, it would make you feel a little better when you’re paying your bills.

Sorry I disappeared again. I was deeply saddened by the shooting at the Navy Yard, where I work, and I lost interest in Craigslist for a while. Then I was distracted by late nights working on an exciting project, which I hope to reveal in the near future. Between those very bad and very good things, these past two weeks have flown by with nary a look at the List of Craig. But now I finally have the time and the brain space to do some sleuthing…
Drexel dresser:
Asking: $65
Condition: ”In very good condition”
Dimensions: 36″ W x 18″ D x 47″ H
Location: Herndon, VA
Thoughts: The ivory color reads a little sad/dirty in these photos, but the hardware, the lines and the price (super low for a Drexel piece, even on CL) make this one worth a bit of elbow grease.

Arrow side table:
Asking: $200
Condition: It’s vintage, but it looks like it’s in perfect condition from the pics.
Dimensions: Not provided
Location: Ashburn, VA
Thoughts: It’s a little high for side tables by CL standards, but the design is unique and arrows are trending. (And they’re a trend I actually like!)

Pair of plaid chairs with/without sofa:
Asking: $350 for the pair of chairs or $550 for the chairs and the sofa
Condition: “Pristine condition”
Dimensions: Chairs are 29″ W x 31″ D x 30″ H; sofa is 85″ W x 32″ D x 26″ H
Location: Chevy Chase, MD
Thoughts: I like the style and size of the chairs, and although I’m not super excited about the upholstery, it’s certainly not offensive and could be a good option for injecting some masculinity into a space. The sofa is also completely unoffensive, but please don’t style it with the pillows from the chair if you get all three. ;)

Hollywood Regency china cabinet:
Asking: $650 OBO
Condition: “Pristine condition”
Dimensions: 82″ H x 60″ W x 20″ D

Gray chesterfield sofa:
Asking: $800
Condition: “Less than a month old”
Dimensions: Not provided

Cane-back sofa:
Asking: $100 Reduced to $80
Condition: “In wonderful condition”
Dimensions: 96″ L, 30″ D, 27″ H
Location: Adams Morgan, DC
Thoughts: I’d definitely reupholster the cushions, and depending on your style, it could be fun to refinish the wood too. You could do a bright white on the frame and a darker color for the upholstery or the opposite. Of course, the wood looks good as is, so you wouldn’t need to change it. Could be a fun project piece, either way.

Gray-blue rolled arm sofa:
Asking: $400 (there’s also a matching love seat and chair with ottoman, if you want a whole set for $800)
Condition: Not described
Dimensions: Not provided
Location: Alexandria, VA
Thoughts: Ultra-suede is not my favorite fabric, aesthetically, but if you’ve got kids or pets or like to eat on the couch, it’s not a bad option, clean-up wise. And this is my personal favorite sofa style. I’ve got a very similar one (from CL, of course) that I had reupholstered.

Cream Crate & Barrel sofa:
Asking: $150 Reduced to $125
Condition: “Needs a clean but no stains or tears”
Dimensions: 86″ L; 39″ D; 25″ H
Location: Capitol Hill, DC
Thoughts: The pillows (which were purchased separately) look like they’ve seen better days. Replace those and you’ve got yourself a stylish sofa for pretty darn cheap.

High-armed Chippendale sofa:
Asking: $400 Reduced to $300
Condition: “Some slight fading in one place and two tiny stains in the corner”
Dimensions: 78″ L; 28″ D
Location: Alexandria, VA
Thoughts: I prefer the lines of this to more common hump-back Chippendale; it feels classic and modern at once. Love the neutral linen and the price seems great, but I’d definitely want to check out the imperfects in person since they’re not visible in the pictures.

I don’t favor rooms that look like they’re straight out of a catalog, but I can certainly understand the appeal of these brand name pieces…
Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams upholstered queen bed frame:
Asking: $400 OBO
Condition: ”In great condition”
Dimensions: 80” L, 60″ W, 14″ H
Location: Chinatown, DC
Thoughts: Who wouldn’t like this? This is a nice compromise of masculine and feminine with the softness of the upholstery, the simple/strong lines, toughness of nailhead trim and the neutral fabric.

Pottery Barn Victoria tufted ottoman:
Asking: $450
Condition: ”Excellent MINT condition”
Dimensions: 51.5″ wide x 31″ deep x 17 ” high
Location: Gaithersburg, MD
Thoughts: A very pretty piece for a more formal living room. While I can’t imagine ever putting my feet up on it, it does look as if it would make a nice alternative coffee table (which is how PB was spinning it, I think, based off of one stock photo in the listing).

West Elm Kite Kilim pouf:
Asking: $150
Condition: ”Brand new”
Dimensions: 24″ L x 24″ W x 13″ H
Location: Silver Spring, MD
Thoughts: I like this as a middle-commitment way of adding pattern to a room. Not nearly as risky as upholstering a chair or couch, but not as timid as a throw pillow either. Win!

Restoration Hardware Collins Chaise Sectional:
Asking: $2500
Condition: ”Very good condition”
Dimensions: 135″W x 70″D x 33″H

Thoughts: Is it expensive? Absolutely. But it’s also a sectional, which warrants more than a typical sofa. And it’s gorgeous. I’d never want to replace it.

Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams vintage leather couch:
Asking: $1450 Reduced to $1050 Reduced again to $699 (!!)
Condition: ”Distressed brown leather couch in excellent condition”
Dimensions: Not provided
Location: U Street/Logan Circle, DC
Thoughts: Finding a good leather sofa on CL that doesn’t look like La-Z-Boy vomit is basically the holy grail. 99% of the time when people say they can’t find what they’re looking for on CL, I think they’re probably not searching hard enough or using the right search terms or some other user error. Good looking leather sofas, however, are seriously impossible finds. They’re unicorns–mystical creatures that exist on the pages of Elle Decor and House Beautiful, but not in real life. If you’ve been looking for a unicorn, grab this handsome guy up immediately!

Thoughts: It looks a little dingy now, but with a little elbow grease, this could be something really special.

Condition: ”Only bought a few months ago. BEAUTIFUL.”
